The penultimate race of the first ATS Summer Proms 3k series took place last night in what was going to be a huge celebration of Scottish distance running in the form of Eilish McColgan winning gold at the Commonwealth Games!
Entry numbers were perhaps down due to this and holidays but that didn’t stop lots of Personal Bests and some epic sprint finishes. First up was a battle for the win with Metro Aberdeen clubmates Jason Kelly and Martin Mueller sprinting to the line in a time of 9:02 and 9:04 respectively.
Next up was a solid 3rd place finish from Kenny Garden of Metro building on a progression of improvement throughout the series.
In the female category, Elaine Wilson took a comfortable win in a time of 11:08, followed by Kelly Cruden of Peterhead AC in 11:45 and Jason’s mother, Louise Kelly of Stonehaven AC taking 3rd place in a time of 12:56.
Another special mention to wheelchair athlete Joanna Robertson who has drastically improved her personal best times throughout the series and finished in an impressive 10:16.
As we reach the final event next month, ATS would like to thank local athletics stalwarts Jackie Stewart and Peter Jennings for supporting the series and making this unique summer event possible.
Overall results to follow.
